The theme of this show, specifically, is the career of the songwriting team of Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers, with an emphasis on Hart and Richard Linklater’s 2025 biopic about the night Hart experienced the beginning of the end of his career, a film called Blue Moon, which was nominated for two Academy Awards. One for Ethan Hawke and his portrayal of lyricist Hart, and the other for Robert Kaplow for best original screenplay. More generally, tonight’s show is about the great American Songbook.
